I start a lot of things. They say Geminis are like that, but I don’t pay attention to horoscopes. I do start a lot of things; projects leap into my consciousness as brightly lit possibilities and I drop what I am doing to check out this new light. After a while, the light fades and I have to decide whether to continue looking there or to chase another new light that’s popping up elsewhere. It’s a fantastical journey of merry go rounds.
You know the anecdote of the Drunkards Search or the Streetlight Effect? “A policeman sees a drunk man searching for something under a streetlight and asks what the drunk has lost. He says he lost his keys and they both look under the streetlight together. After a few minutes the policeman asks if he is sure he lost them here, and the drunk replies, no, and that he lost them in the park. The policeman asks why he is searching here, and the drunk replies, “this is where the light is”.
Don’t be like me. Stay in the park where your keys are or go and find a light source and take it to the park. Whatever, it takes, find your keys before you move on to the next thing. Stay in the park. I am working every day to do the same. Check out this video by Jake Parker which talks about finishing what you start. “Finished is better than perfect.”
