Why we launched Amherst Now: A noticeboard for neighbors

How do you find local updates? Not the news. Not the headlines. Not what the influencers are up to. But what your neighbors are doing. Where they are hanging out.

In a world of noisy feeds and disappearing posts, we wanted to create something simple that would answer this question. Something quiet but useful. Something VERY local.

That’s how Amherst Now was born.

It’s a digital noticeboard for Amherst and surrounding towns, designed to make it easy for anyone to share an announcement, find out what’s happening nearby, or support local initiatives.

No account required. No algorithm to fight. Just a clean space to post and discover what’s going on in your community.

What makes Amherst Now different?

There are plenty of places to post online; Facebook groups, listservs, bulletin boards that haven’t been updated since 2012.

But Amherst Now is built with a different energy. It’s:

  • Searchable
  • Mobile-friendly
  • Free and open to all (as long as your notice fits our community guidelines)
  • Focused on local relevance: no spam, no influencer posts drowning everyone else out, no angry posts or clickbait.

It’s for parents, artists, small business owners, students, volunteers, and town departments. It’s for anyone with something to share that matters to someone else nearby.
